THE WATEX™ SYSTEM, A POWERFUL TECHNOLOGY FOR GEOTHERMAL EXPLORATION IN COSTA RICA

CONTEXT

Using the WATEX™ process, RTI is tracking and mapping areas of high hydrothermal interest all over regions affected by specific recent tectonic events, in Africa, Middle-East and along the Central and South American cordillera.

These areas of interest have been recorded accurately and logged into the RTI database system during field observations along major structural trends in several parts of the world.

WATEX™ HYDROTHERMAL EXPLORATION IN COSTA RICA

Through the WATEX™ groundwater exploration and assessment that took place in 2018 in Costa Rica, new geothermal areas were discovered.
The hot springs located on the boundary of the San Carlos Basin, in Costa Rica, are an example.

Near a large thrust fault, 1.5 km North-East of Palmera, several hydrothermal events have been recorded by RTI. They are most likely under the influence of Platanar volcano.
This San Carlos Basin is host to a giant aquifer locally intruded by recent pyroclastic plugs as shown on the WATEX™ image: Cerros Los Chile, Valle Hermoso, Vuetta Kopper and Loma Barrantes volcanic plugs.

Recording such specific features using the WATEX™ imagery opens broad perspectives for investors, whether it be for energy production, hydrothermal resorts or mineral production specific to each hydrothermal system.
